National Geographic’s Traveler magazine ranked Holden Beach as one of the “Top 10 Family Beaches in the U.S.” Locally famous for its amazing fishing – featuring a full-service fishing pier for both recreational and commercial fishermen; King Mackerel, Cobia, Sailfish and Speckled Trout are just a few of the species that frequent the local waters.

Activities

Nature lovers will appreciate the ample opportunities to observe the nesting and hatching cycle of loggerhead sea turtles along the coastline. Other animals that have made the area their home include whitetail deer, red fox, piping plovers, red tail hawks and osprey.

As you can imagine, Holden Beach restaurants offer some amazing fresh seafood. One local favorite is Captain Pete’s restaurant, featuring straight from the boat foods like crab stuffed hushpuppies, shrimp and grits, Oyster Po’Boys, the Captain’s seafood stew, linguine with clams and shrimp ravioli. Additionally, festivals hosted in the spring and fall seasons celebrate the fishing traditions of this small community.
