The Southport Wooden Boat Show is This Weekend!
Don’t forget to check out this year’s Wooden Boat Show in Southport on Saturday the 26th from 10 AM to 4 PM at the Old Yacht Basin. The event is free and you will get to meet the many different boat makers and vote for your favorite boat.
The awards given out this year will include:
Best Powered Boat
Best Non-Powered Boat (Row/Paddle)
Best Non-Powered Boat (Sail)
People’s Choice Award
The wooden boats will be on display on both land and in the water. There will be live music from Herb Harton throughout the day and you’ll be able to enjoy the seafood chowder cook-off that accompanies the Wooden Boat Show. Those in attendance will also have the opportunity to go on a trip on the Cape Fear with Captain Betsy Boating Tours.
For the kids, the Nauti-kids events will be fun for your little sailors. They will be able to built their own boat and test its seaworthiness. Plus, representatives from the Cape Fear Museum of History & Science, the NC Underwater Archaeology Lab, and the North Carolina Aquarium of Fort Fisher will be present as well. While there, you should also check out the various nautical and maritime arts & crafts, demonstrations, and exhibits.
Finally, there will be a raffle for a double-ender rowboat, a signed and framed original 2015 event poster, and an Adventure Co. kayak tour. Before you head home, be sure to grab a T-shirt and commemorative poster. This wonderful event is free – so come on out to Southport on Satruday and have a fun time!
