The Latest on Ocean Isle Beach Park Plans

Brunswick County Parks and Recreation, in conjunction with the Benesch Group, has been working on a master building plan for Ocean Isle Beach Park. The Town of Ocean Isle Beach donated 57-acres of land to the County in 2005 with the goal of creating a state-of-the-art park in Southeastern Brunswick County and plans are really coming together.

With a lot of public input being provided during the conceptual phase, nearly 900 survey responses came in after many locals were involved in various public workshops on the planning. As a result, the Steering Committee will be able to incorporate many of the wants and needs of local citizens.

The current proposed plan now includes the following:

– A Baseball/Softball Complex with 5 Fields
– Paved Walking Trails
– 3-Multipurpose fields
– Pickle Ball Courts
– Fitness Equipment
– Inclusive Playgrounds
– Additional Picnic Shelters and Restrooms
– Horseshoe Pits
– A Dog Park
– Basketball Courts
– Additional Parking
– Open Space & Passive Areas

The plan will also incorporate existing attributes such as the tennis courts, the playground, amphitheater, restrooms, and multipurpose field. Moving forward, the next step is a review by the Brunswick County Parks and Recreation Board, followed by a presentation to the Brunswick County Board of Commissioners for approval and funding.

This project, which is 11 years in the making, is so close to becoming a reality! If you would like to offer input or express opinions regarding the park plans, then I encourage you to attend the March 7th Meeting at the David R. Sandifer Building at the County Complex. It will take place in the Commissioner’s Meeting Room at 5:45 PM. Feel free to share this link and information with friends, family, and coworkers.
